Flossing is one of life’s necessary evils. Not that it’s evil, but that it adds a few minutes to your daily oral health routine. While it’s easy to spare two minutes twice daily to brush your teeth, quite a few people don’t find the time to floss.

The truth is, flossing doesn’t take that much time, and it’s incredibly important if you want to reach optimal oral health. Flossing helps remove plaque, and the buildup of other harmful particles, from places that your toothbrush just can’t reach.

So that’s why we always remind you to floss regularly. If you’re still struggling to floss on a regular basis, then here are some tips to help you floss like a boss and achieve your optimal oral health.

Floss at night

Unlike brushing, you only need to floss once per day. It’s recommended that you floss at night, because that gives your mouth an eight-hour period of rest (if you manage to get all your eight hours of sleep each night) where it’s not dealing with food or anything else.

Don’t ‘saw’ back and forth

A lot of people make the mistake of ‘sawing’ their floss back and forth between their teeth. This abrades your teeth, creates grooves, and may eventually even saw off the crown.

Instead, insert the floss at your gum line and drag it down between the gaps in your teeth.

Use new floss

Don’t use the same piece of floss to clean between two separate teeth. Once used, a piece of floss is loaded with bacteria – all you doing by reusing floss is spread more germs around your mouth. That’s the opposite effect you want flossing to have.
